What’s the secret to getting your kids to like clothes? I’ve heard and worked on this same question my entire adult life and there is only one answer. Adults need to model positive action, not negative emotion. So what can parents do to show their kids that they are made of good stuff without being negative? Well… you can try a range of different things:
One of the best things you can do for your children is to get them involved in games. Games are great way to show your child that you care. For example, put a board game, secretAgent, on the block. If your child is not into that, read a book, play a board game, or watch a show. Ask them what they think of the games and see if there is a common theme. If not, make some changes.
Make Simple Changes
If you have a 12 or 15-year-old, it’s a good idea to explain to them that there are thousands of things that make up society and that everything they understand is only as close to being correct as a toddler can get. Explain that people are not perfect and that there are a lot of things that people don’t know they have.
Tell Good Stories
Tell your child stories. Tell them about things that you have done, things that you are proud of, or things that you think will make you stand out. It might sound like therapy, but it’s not necessary. It’s important for your child to have someone in touch with their feelings so that they can turn those feelings into something more positive.
Take A Hike
Take your child on a hike. This might seem like a odd thing to do, but it’s actually really helpful. Hiking is a therapeutic activity, it provides your child with something they can feel physically and psychologically safe with, and it gives them something they can look back on and say, ‘Yes, I could have done better.’
Read Something Different
If your child doesn’t have anything interesting to say right now, try to read something different. Whether it’s a book, an article, a talk, a video, or an effect movie, try reading something that you find interesting and different. It might sound silly, but it will encourage your child to think outside of the box and challenge them in a new way.
Try Some New Activities
It might seem like an odd thing to do, but try new things. New activities are great for any age, but especially for kids. Try out different sports, different languages, different cultures. If you have kids that enjoyrigin of a sport, try doing some of it. If they enjoy board games, try doing some of them. Try using a remote controlled device to do things, like play a board game, or watch a professional stream. If you have an older child, try doing push-ups and situps, weighted exercises, and even aerobic activities.
Although it might seem counterintuitive, having a healthy relationship with your children is a positive trait in and of itself. Positive emotions are great for kids, and positive activity is one of the best things you can do for your kids. Plus, there are a ton of great free things to do in the world that don’t require a special activity or phone app. So, if you’ve been struggling to get your kids to Like clothes, this is the perfect time to start.
